President’s Message – Winter 2018

Meetings are held at the Atlanta History Center’s Woodruff Auditorium in McElreath Hall

President’s Message – Winter 2018
We welcome you to the AHS Website! We are so glad you have found us!

The purpose of the American Hydrangea Society is to study and learn about the genus Hydrangea, including all species and cultivars, as well as its culture, habits, hardiness, and performance.

We are a very friendly and casual group (jeans are perfect) of both novice and experienced gardeners that love to share their knowledge and experience with growing hydrangeas and their companion plants.  The current marketplace has so many new and improved cultivars or varieties that we all want to find the perfect place for them in our gardens.

We have three meetings each year on the fourth Monday night in February, April, and October Atlanta History Center’s Woodruff Auditorium in McElreath Hall.  Our social time with hospitality treats begins at 7:00 PM when you can meet other hydrangea lovers and ask any questions you might have about plants you already have or plants you are considering for your garden!

You do not have to be an AHS member to attend our meetings, but we hope you will soon join the AHS so you that you will receive our newsletters, and get a ticket to our annual garden tour.  Our wonderful plant raffle after each meeting includes hydrangeas and other plants donated by great metro area nurseries and mail order sources and our own members share their plants too.

The AHS has both local and international speakers that will share their expertise with you.  If you live outside the metro Atlanta area and are unable to attend our meetings, fear not, the lecture including numerous photos will be highlighted in an informative recap in our three newsletters for members. Another benefit of an AHS membership includes a ticket(s) to our upcoming 24th annual AHS garden tour on Saturday, June 9, 2018. This year’s tour will include four gardens in E. Cobb and three gardens in Roswell!

Please join us at our next meeting on Monday, February 26, 2018 when Lisa Bartlett will speak about “A Long Row to Hoe” The Cultivation of the Smith-Gilbert Gardens.

Hope to see you there!

Happy Gardening,
Gloria Ward
AHS President
